CAT (Computer Aided Translation) Tools in the Localization Industry

We use the latest software, technology and tools for the execution of our projects. Our translators employ CAT tools such as Trados, Word Fast and most mainstream tools.

Trados

Trados is a computer-assisted translation (CAT) software suite, developed by SDL (previously by Trados GmbH). It’s widely used in the translation industry to aid translators in managing translation projects, maintaining consistency, and improving efficiency. Trados provides various tools and features such as translation memory, terminology management, project management, and quality assurance checks, which help translators work faster and more accurately. It’s popular among professional translators and translation agencies due to its robust functionality and support for a wide range of file formats.

WordFast

Wordfast is another popular computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool used in the translation industry. Like Trados, Wordfast helps translators manage and streamline their translation workflow. Here are some key points about Wordfast:

  1. Software Suite:Wordfast offers a suite of translation tools, including Wordfast Classic, Wordfast Pro, and Wordfast Anywhere (a web-based version).
  2. Features:It includes standard CAT tool features such as translation memory (TM), terminology management, and project management capabilities. Wordfast Pro, for example, supports a wide range of file formats and allows for customization of translation workflows.
  3. Compatibility:Wordfast supports collaboration between translators and integrates with various word processing and localization software. It’s compatible with both Windows and macOS platforms.

SmartCat

SmartCat is a cloud-based translation management platform designed to streamline the translation process for translators, language service providers (LSPs), and businesses. Here are some key features and aspects of SmartCat:

  1. Translation Editor:SmartCat offers a web-based translation editor that supports various file formats (such as Microsoft Office documents, PDFs, HTML, etc.) and allows translators to work collaboratively in real-time.
  2. Translation Memory: Like other translation tools, SmartCat incorporates a translation memory (TM) system that stores previously translated segments for reuse, helping to maintain consistency and reduce translation costs.
  3. Machine Translation Integration:It integrates with machine translation engines to provide suggestions that translators can use or edit, depending on their quality and appropriateness.
  4. Project Management: SmartCat includes project management features to facilitate workflow management, assignment of tasks to translators, tracking progress, and managing deadlines.
  5. Collaboration: It supports collaboration between translators, editors, and project managers, allowing them to communicate within the platform and work together on projects.

Mobile Translation

“Mobile translations” generally refer to the process of translating content specifically for mobile applications or mobile-friendly platforms. Here are some key considerations and aspects related to mobile translations:

1. User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) :-

Translating mobile applications requires careful attention to the UI and UX design. Text lengths may vary between languages, so translators need to ensure that translated text fits within the allocated space without compromising usability.

2. Localization :-

Localization goes beyond translation and includes adapting content culturally and contextually for the target audience. This involves not only language but also graphics, colors, symbols, and even functionalities that may vary across different regions.

3. Technical Constraints :

Mobile apps often have technical constraints such as character limitations, font sizes, and layout restrictions. Translators and developers must work together to ensure that the translated content fits seamlessly into the app without causing layout issues or affecting functionality.

4. Continuous Updates :

Mobile apps frequently undergo updates and releases. Translators need to be ready to handle new strings and changes in the interface promptly to maintain consistency across different language versions.

5. Integration with Translation Tools:

Using translation management tools or platforms can streamline the translation process for mobile apps. These tools help manage translation memory, glossaries, and collaborative workflows, ensuring consistency and efficiency.

6.Testing and Quality Assurance:

After translations are integrated into the mobile app, thorough testing is essential to ensure that everything works correctly and that the translated content appears as intended. This includes checking for linguistic accuracy, functionality, and user experience.

7.SEO and App Store Optimization (ASO):

For mobile apps targeting global markets, translating keywords, descriptions, and promotional texts is crucial for ASO. This helps increase visibility in app stores and attract users from different linguistic backgrounds.

In summary, mobile translations require a specialized approach that takes into account not only linguistic accuracy but also technical and cultural aspects to ensure a seamless user experience across different languages and regions.
